Iguazu Falls: Amazing, incredible, breathtaking. Think of a superlative, and it has probably been used to describe these magnificent waterfalls. Nestled between Argentina and Brazil, Iguazu Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world. Visitors can experience the falls from either the Argentinian or Brazilian side, or better yet, both. During our trip, we stayed on the Brazilian side and found it to be an excellent choice for exploring this natural wonder.
We stayed in the city of Foz do Iguazu. When visiting the Falls, it’s essential to choose accommodation close to the bus stop. This strategic decision made our trip much more convenient. Traveling by the local public bus from town to the falls is fairly easy, eliminating the need for organized touristy hotel pick-ups. The bus 120, signed Parque Nacional/Aeroporto, departs from the Terminal Transporte Urbano and, after a 40-minute ride, leaves you at the doorstep of the falls (the last stop). The city center is well connected with the bus terminal, ensuring that wherever you stay, you can easily reach the terminal and begin your adventure.
Entering the National Park: An Exciting Start
The entrance to the national park feels somewhat like a theme park. For a moment, we thought we were in for a roller coaster ride. Instead, we boarded a bus that took us through thick jungle, giving us our first glimpse of the falls. The sight was jaw-dropping. The sheer extent and volume of water pouring through every second is quite simply mind-boggling. The falls are mesmerizing; we spent hours unable to take our eyes off them.
Experiencing the Devil’s Throat
One of the highlights of our visit was walking along a platform that leads almost to the heart of the so-called “Devil’s Throat.” We approached the base of a “small” fall that crashes against the rocks just meters away from the platform. Before we reached the end of the platform, we were soaking wet. Peering over the edge and seeing the congregation of falls that make up the Devil’s Throat, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder mixed with the realization that we are indeed very small creatures in this universe.
The Roar of the Falls: A Memorable Soundtrack

With the roar of the falls ringing in our ears, we headed back to the city. There, we treated ourselves to one of the best açaí bowls we’ve ever had. Açaí is a typical Brazilian snack made of blended iced açaí fruit, granola, and fruits. It was delicious and refreshing, perfect after a day of exploring the falls. After enjoying our snack, we got a good night’s sleep, ready to experience the Argentinian side of this spectacular natural wonder.

Crossing the Border: From Brazil to Argentina
The next day, we took a bus ride into Puerto Iguazu, the gateway to the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls. From there, we caught another bus to the national park. The entrance on this side also resembled a theme park, and we had to catch a toy train to reach the Devil’s Throat on the opposite side of the border. Once again, an ingenious sequence of platforms brought us right up to the falls.
Wildlife Encounters: Toucan, Spiders, and Coaties
During our exploration, we saw a toucan, a gigantic spider, and numerous coaties. Coaties are cute-looking animals related to raccoons, but don’t let their looks fool you—they can transmit rabies. These wildlife encounters added an extra layer of excitement to our visit.
The Argentinian Side: Closer and More Extensive

The Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls is more extensive than the Brazilian side. One of the platforms goes so close to the falls that it feels like the falls could shatter both you and the platform. We were once again soaked to the bone and could hardly keep our jaws shut from the wonder. The countless rainbows and lush vegetation surrounding the falls enhanced the experience. If it weren’t for the occasional tourist helicopter circling the falls and the speedboats bringing tourists almost under the falls, you might almost feel that this could be the Garden of Eden.
Our journey to Iguazu Falls was filled with wonder and awe. The natural beauty of the falls, combined with the lush surrounding jungle and diverse wildlife, made it a trip of a lifetime. Whether you visit the Brazilian side, the Argentinian side, or both, Iguazu Falls is a destination that will leave you speechless and longing to return. So pack your bags, book your trip, and get ready to experience one of the most amazing, incredible, and breathtaking natural wonders on Earth.
